Theres an alternate plane locating device thats available at about 1/2 the price of the walston. Bruce Musser sent this link to me awhile back and I'd thought I'd pass it along

cut and past it into your browser

Does anyone use this system? How does it compare to the Walston? The price for a receiver and transmitter is only $200. It would be nice to have a complete setup for the price of the transmitter from Walson.

Actually, Tx + Rx is $250 - still a bargain. Good Lift!

I found on RCGroups a whole discussion on the Plane locator and some testing of it at:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=396806

Seems to be good to more than a mile when used with a longer antenna. With the cheaper price for transmitters, it might be the way to go. I wonder if the Walson overlaps any of the frequencies and so you ight be able to use both to track the transmitter. Have to look into this more.

The Walston's that I have are on 220 MHz. However it may span beyond that.

Best to contact the MFG
