This will be an Altitude Limited Electric Soaring contest based on AMA Competition Rules for event 463. We will be using 5M landing tapes marked at 1/2 meter increments. Any local modifications or exceptions will be set at the pilot's meeting by the CD.
ALES device in the plane will be set to 100, 150 or 200 meters as determined by the CD according to prevailing conditions.
Novice Class Rule Exception: Novice pilots flying Radian, Radian Pro, Radian XL or Night Radian that are using the stock motor and prop may apply to the CD to be allowed to launch based on a 30 second climb rather than an ALES device as LISF has determined that these e-gliders cannot exceed 200M in 30 seconds. All other e-gliders will require ALES devices.
4/17- Just posted discussion board on RC groups about contest. Post here for questions, comments, etc: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3287851-Long-Island-Silent-Flyers-ALES-Contest-May-4-5#post41657393

From the Northeast, take Whitestone or Throgs Neck Bridge to Cross Island Pkwy then to either Long Island Expressway or Grand Central Parkway (which becomes Northern State Pkwy) East (usually prefer the latter as there is no commercial traffic). Then follow below for Long Island Expressway or Northern State Parkway.
From the South or the West, take 95 to George Washington Bridge. I like to skirt around and avoid going through Manhattan or the Bronx as follows: follow signs to Harlem River Drive as you get off the bridge and don't stay on 95. Follow Harlem River Drive to Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (formerly Triboro Bridge) going through Randall's Island into Long Island, following 278 which will turn into Grand Central/Northern State Pkwy. Then just follow Northern Staten Instructions below.

Your car’s navigation system may also be able to use the address: 25 Southwoods Road, Syosset, NY 11791-2925.
Long Island Expressway (495) to Exit 44N Rt 135
Northern State Parkway to Exit 36B North to Rt 135
Southern State Parkway to Exit 28A North
Rt 135 to Exit 14E Rt 25 East toward Woodbury
Go about .6 miles - Turn left onto Southwoods Road ( golf course on left)
Go about 1.3 miles (pass Syosset High School) to Sportsfield on right.
Go into the parking lot and drive down the right side, past sports fields, past the gate onto the dirt road.
Drive slowly, watching for walkers and bikes crossing the road. The road will open to a field. Look for tents and cars. Drive along the edge of the field. Please park 10 feet away from the tall grass to leave a lane.
Food and Drinks - LISF will provide water and soft drinks at no charge. Bring your own lunch as no food will be provided or be available on the field.
Timing - All pilots will be expected to time for other pilots or the contest will not be able to proceed until we have enough timers. Pilots are expected to arrange for a timer prior to coming to the flight line. If you need help, ask. If you have not timed before, this document may be helpful.
The Job of the Timer at a TD Contest
Frequency Control - As most pilots are on 2.4 GHz LISF will not be posting a frequency control board. Anyone flying on 72 MHz or other channels requiring frequency control should notify the scorekeeping tent so we can identify any conflicts. If there are conflicts, the pilots in question will be asked to work out a frequency change or a frequency sharing plan with the other pilot.
Avoid disturbing tall grass as much as possible. It is a nesting area for birds and we don't want to upset conservationists/birdwatchers at the field who can be very sensitive about this! Park at least 10 feet away from tall grass.
