Syosset is located on Long Island, just east of NYC. See map information at www.lisf.org
For MapQuest or GPS use 25 Southwoods Road, Syosset, NY 11791-2925
Suggested Route:
Long Island Expressway, Northern State Parkway or the Southern State Parkway East to Route 135 North (Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway) to Exit 14E Woodbury. This puts you on Jericho Tpk./Route 25 East.
Proceed on Jericho Tpk. about 1 mile - see golf course on left and Shopping center on left. Southwoods Road is between them.
Turn left on Southwoods Road - Proceed North -
In about a mile see Syosset High School on left and sports field on right. Turn right into sports field parking lot and proceed along right side to the rear and go through the orange gate to dirt road. Please drives slowly and with caution as bikers and hikers are present.
Field is at the end of this short road. Drive along edge to where you see other pilots.
ON FIELD REGISTRATION will be accepted up to 8:00 am. Contest is free to all Novice and pilots under 16 years of age and over 70.
Pilots who are not experienced with the winch are welcome. We will help you launch your glider. Those who would prefer to have someone else throw the glider on launch just need to ask for assistance. We are glad to help.
Note: There will be a police requested no-fly zone at the west tree line bordering the sports fields. Flying to the west in the corners and not over the sports fields will be permitted.
As most pilots are now on 2.4 GHz there is no frequency control board. 72 MHz channel conflict is rarely a problem but let the CD know of you believe there will be a conflict. Pilots with channel conflicts will be asked to work out a cooperative sharing of the frequency as there will be no transmitter impound. Contact the registrar or the CD if you have questions.
We have had problems on CHANNEL 57 on 72 MHz so we recommend against using this channel.
If there is a major sports event on the front field, they may tell you to park across South Woods Road. DON'T! Tell them you are going to the Sailplane event in the Nature Preserve. They should let you drive in.
Water/soda will be available to all at no extra charge.
LUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE BOTH DAYS FOR $7 PER DAY.
